Other <strong>typical symptoms<\/strong> of <strong>pseudarthrosis<\/strong> include <strong>redness<\/strong>, <strong>pain<\/strong>, and <strong>swelling<\/strong> over the unhealed bone area. &#8220;Since the stability of the bone is severely impaired by the <strong>pseudarthrosis<\/strong>, <strong>malpositions<\/strong>, <strong>movement restrictions<\/strong>, <strong>joint problems<\/strong> but also <strong>muscle atroph<\/strong>y often occur in the affected region,&#8221; explains <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pastl.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Klaus Pastl, orthopedist from Linz.<\/a> Most patients initially experience <strong>pain<\/strong> only during <strong>movement and exertion<\/strong>, but as the pseudarthrosis progresses, <strong>pain<\/strong> and <strong>symptoms<\/strong> also occur at <strong>rest<\/strong>. If <strong>pseudarthrosis<\/strong> occurs after implantation of <strong>metal screws<\/strong> or <strong>metal plates<\/strong>, reacting too late is <strong>particularly<\/strong> <strong>dangerous<\/strong>. If the <strong>bone does not<\/strong> <strong>heal<\/strong> in time, the entire weight rests on the metal plates and metal screws. These can fracture from the stress. &#8220;<strong>Broken metal parts<\/strong> in the body can be <strong>extremely painful<\/strong> for patients. These operations are also extremely unpleasant and difficult for the surgeon. &#8220;Operations are tedious and complex. Often, much bone must be destroyed and the surrounding soft tissues injured in order to retrieve the <strong>fractured metal pieces<\/strong> from the patient&#8217;s bone. Sometimes not all metal parts can be removed and must then remain in the bone. It&#8217;s frustrating, for patients and surgeons.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Treatment of <strong>pseudarthrosis<\/strong> can be a lengthy process and can often take months. In most cases, only surgery can be considered for the successful treatment of pseudarthrosis.
